Shadowbane is one of those cards players keep asking about. Here is, in plain words, what its official text says, the rulings published by Wizards of the Coast, and the combos players actually run.
01
Official card text
The next time a source of your choice would deal damage to you and/or creatures you control this turn, prevent that damage. If damage from a black source is prevented this way, you gain that much life.
How it works : Shadowbane
Original English text — Wizards of the Coast / Scryfall
- #1· Wizards of the Coast
This only prevents damage the chosen source would deal to you or a creature you control. If the creature would deal damage to another player, a planeswalker, or a creature you don’t control, it does not get prevented.
No other card is named in this ruling.
